About the RA Supergirl

IMG_1897

I am a patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis [RA] also know as Rheumatoid Disease [RD]. Additionally, I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Secondary Sjogren’s, Occipital Neuralgia, Carpal Tunnel, Peripheral Neuropathy, Hypermobility, Ovarian Cysts, and being chronically fabulous. I refer to all of it together as “The Shenanigans”, I think it’s much catchier. I’m a senior [6th year] at Oklahoma State University and look forward to a future teaching anywhere from 4th to 8th grade. I specialize in education within urban environments and couldn’t love my job more.

I was diagnosed with RA/RD in early January of 2011 (though it is suspected that I’ve had RA since I was about 7) and have been attempting to proactively cope ever since. I have faced my fair share of difficulties both from my illness and from life itself but decided a long time ago to not let myself be defined by them. I enjoy creating pottery, going to concerts, writing, weird art, hiking, backpacking, teaching, and dragging my husband to museums.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me through my Facebook page or in comments.

  1. Yo “Super” Girl…. been awhile since PRC. I am starting back to work this week, it has been a rocky road, to say the least. BUT, through all of that I am doing “GREAT”. I have PT, and a trainer at a fitness center. Haven’t gone back to meds for pain relief. There are those “DD’s”, but they are so rare and not as painful as I thought. JUST breathe, Right???

Work will bring new challenges. If I stay on the program nothing will fail me.

    • I am so glad to hear that you have been doing well! I know that DD’s never go away but are much more manageable nowadays. I need to be better about my PT but and still making myself remain active. WAY TO GO JO!
