About the RA Supergirl

Madeline Pic 5

I am a patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis [RA] also known as Rheumatoid Disease [RD]. Additionally, I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Secondary Sjogren’s, Occipital Neuralgia, Carpal Tunnel, Peripheral Neuropathy, and being chronically fabulous. I graduated from Oklahoma State University and am currently teaching. I’m a 4th-grade science and social studies teacher, who specializes in working in urban and high need schools. When I’m not teaching I love baking, being politically active, hiking, make weird art, and play with our dogs.

I was diagnosed with RA/RD in early January of 2011 (though it is suspected that I’ve had RA since I was very young) and have been attempting to proactively cope ever since. I have faced my fair share of difficulties both from my illness and from life itself but decided a long time ago to not let myself be defined by them. I am determined to recklessly love the life I am living.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me through my Facebook page or in comments.

  1. Yo “Super” Girl…. been awhile since PRC. I am starting back to work this week, it has been a rocky road, to say the least. BUT, through all of that I am doing “GREAT”. I have PT, and a trainer at a fitness center. Haven’t gone back to meds for pain relief. There are those “DD’s”, but they are so rare and not as painful as I thought. JUST breathe, Right???

Work will bring new challenges. If I stay on the program nothing will fail me.

    • I am so glad to hear that you have been doing well! I know that DD’s never go away but are much more manageable nowadays. I need to be better about my PT but and still making myself remain active. WAY TO GO JO!
