Happy Birthday to me

So 3/8/12 was my 19th birthday, it was also the day of my first car accident, first ambulance ride, and first totaled car. I always figured my first wreck would be my fault I was SO wrong. I was just following my friend to a surprise restaurant for a birthday breakfast. While I was waiting for her to turn left I suddenly felt my car jerk forward harder than I had eer felt anything. The next thing I knew there were squad car lights and my friend running towards my car. The officer had been  passing by and saw the damage to my car but not the impact. A few minutes later I realized that the crack that I heard when I was hit wasn’t my car. My neck hurt more than it ever had. My friend had the cop call an ambulance seeing as how I have RA and a messed up neck.  Long story short 2 1/2 hours later I find out I only have soft tissue damage and can go home. We go to the junk yard and get everything out of my car (it was hailing and raining and so very muddy). We found out that my airbags failed to deploy as they should have [we had assumed the impact just wasn’t enough] and that I was lucky it wasn’t a lot worse.  Then my friend and her husband let me stay in their guest room so I wouldn’t be alone (per request of ER doctor who BTW was from west Philadelphia and yes we did sing to him). So that was my big 19th B-day adventure, I guess in a weird way my gift was a new car…
